\"Jamaican percussion master and legendary reggae sideman Larry McDonald will release his album Drumquestra, the first solo record of his four-decade career, on June 2 via MCPR Music. The album was produced by Sidney Mills (Sly & Robbie, Steel Pulse). http://www.mcprmusic.com/ http://www.myspace.com/mediacprmusic Drumquestra is a wonderfully unabashed drum album: 15 tracks of reggae, dub and world music featuring Larry McDonald and his drum orchestra playing over 20 different percussive instruments. Songs like Drumquestra\" and Mento In 3\" showcase the primal elements of ancient melodies and rhythms that have shaped modern music. If you think that the tribal Drumquestra\" sounds like it was recorded in a jungle, you\'d be right: Larry, his drum orchestra, and dueling scat vocalists Anjali and Richie Paray recorded the song in the Green Grotto caves at Runaway Bay on Jamaica\'s north coast.\" Video produced & directed by Robert O\'Haire at straw2gold pictures edited by Jeff Burns http://www.straw2goldpictures.com/ [More] [Less] |

Head Over Heels is the lead-off track from Larry McDonalds new album Drumquestra (out June) featuring the familiar vocals of Dollarman. Drumquestra unites many of Larrys longtime associates- a glittering Jamaica crew of master-drummers including; dub poet Mutabaruka, anguishing on Free Man, Ras Tesfa on Drum Say; and veteran reggae legends Toots Hibbert who riffs vigorously on Set The Children Free, Stranger Cole who pairs with his sassy DJ son Squidly on the poignant \"Crime or Music and Bob Andy who delivers elegant scatting on the historic tribute You Got Jazz? MCPR DJ Shaza\'s exuberance romps through the healing shout-out of Brotherman and the more meditative Peace of Mind, on which he\'s joined by the singer, J.D. Smoothe. It\'s also DJ Shaza\'s words and fervour rocking the guaranteed dance floor filler World Party. Produced by Sidney Mills- it triumphantly distills McDonald\'s own epic percussion explorations, starting with Jamaican mento and ska in the 1960s, and flowing through the exciting cross-currents of Africa, Brazil and Cuba that he knows as his own.
